About SkyDeck

Formed as a partnership between the Haas School of Business, the College of Engineering, and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, SkyDeck combines the consulting know-how of traditional accelerators with the vast resources of its research university.

This robust partnership is coupled with SkyDeck’s unique mentorship program to create a powerful environment for startups. Its SkyAdvisors, Partners, and large network of accredited investors connect their SkyTeams to the expertise and capital they need to launch and grow…to the moon.

SkyDeck is industry-agnostic: we accept applications from companies in all industries.

REQUIREMENTS

Think you have a great startup? Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • 1

A team member (founder, employee, advisor) affiliated with UC Berkeley, any UC campus, or Berkeley Lab (LBNL). An affiliate is a student, alumni, faculty, staff, postdoc researcher, or visiting scholar. Founders who are foreign nationals without any of these affiliations can apply for the Global Acceleration Program. If accepted, their startups are eligible for SkyDeck

  • 2

Evidence of business potential. This could come in the form of revenue, users, customer interviews, a demo, a prototype, or a patent or significant scientific/technical breakthrough

  • 3

Team must be for-profit and ready to begin interacting with mentors and potential investors

The SkyDeck Berkeley Acceleration Method is a 6-month acceleration process for promising startups in any vertical who are affiliated with UC Berkeley, any UC campus, Lawrence Berkeley Lab, or global founders.

Between 15 and 20 selected Cohort teams receive a $100K investment for the equivalent of 5% equity at a $2 million cap SAFE note from The Berkeley SkyDeck Fund. Cohort teams participate in mandatory sessions, are matched with a Lead Advisor, have designated work space at SkyDeck, present at Demo Day, and meet additional requirements geared for their success over the cohort session.

Between 60 and 80 selected Hot Desk teams have access to many of the same resources as Cohort teams, excluding the guaranteed fund investment and aspects of the mentorship program. The Berkeley SkyDeck Fund has the option of investing in all Hot Desk teams who raise an institutional round up to 10% of that round at the same terms as the other investors.

SkyDeck Cohort and SkyDeck Hot Desk teams receive access to: 150+ SkyAdvisors, weekly roundtables, workshops, and events, space to work at SkyDeck (HotDesk do not have designated space but may work in open areas), and $250K+ in-kind legal, financial, and tech resources from SkyDeck Resource Partners! SkyDeck has a suite of dedicated business development resources connecting startups to customers in every industry, using our industry partner network and the Berkeley Alumni Network of 500,000 living alums.
