UC Berkeley Awarded $2.2M to Support Campus Entrepreneurship

UC Berkeley has been awarded $2.2 million from the State of California to further the overall entrepreneurial efforts on campus with funding from State Assembly Bill 2664. SkyDeck is excited to be one of the six entities that support the UC Berkeley startup ecosystem that are receiving funding from the bill. In collaboration with the five other entities at Berkeley receiving the funding, SkyDeck will use the funding to expand outreach to and events for entrepreneurs and more closely coordinate all campus programs. We are very excited to receive this important funding from our State legislature.

Several initiatives will kick off as a result of the funding. For example, SkyDeck is planning a campus-wide Demo Day, and expanded programs and events for female and underrepresented minority entrepreneurs.

According to SkyDeck Executive Director Caroline Winnett, “this funding from the state will go directly to support entrepreneurs in the Berkeley ecosystem. The enhanced collaboration between various campus groups to leverage our existing programs will rocket boost our startup ecosystem.”

These new events will add to our expanding program at SkyDeck. We’ve been working hard to provide more opportunities for our startups, as well as for the UC Berkeley community. SkyDeck is introducing the SkyTalk series , with our first one on February 7th. We are hosting a Faculty Entrepreneurship Open House on the same date, and our Executive Director is speaking at SXSW this year.

Together with the five other partners of the grant, we look forward to an exciting 2017 and onwards for the entrepreneurship community here at Cal.
