SkyAlum Copia Founder Komal Ahmad Named 2016 Toyota Mother of Invention
SkyAlum Feeding Forward has rebranded, and is now Copia. Copia more accurately represents the company’s mission to reduce food waste and feed the hungry because it is based on the Roman goddess Copia that represents abundance, prosperity and opportunity. The company connects businesses with surplus food to shelters, churches and nonprofits to feed the hungry and increase tax deductions and decrease disposal costs.
Their rebranding comes at a time when the company has decided to become a public benefit corporation. The company works to grow nationally, and eventually become an international service in 2017. Copia currently serves 8 cities and they have recovered 830K pounds of food to feed 691K people, while saving businesses $4.6M.
Komal Ahmad, Copia Founder and CEO, was announced as a 2016 Toyota Mother of Invention. The Mothers of Invention are identified as exceptional innovators who leverage innovation to make a positive impact on their community and the world. Ahmad works to expand the scope of Copia’s outreach to eventually accomplish her goal of feeding over a million people.
