SkyAlum Civil Maps Raises $6.6 Million Seed Round

SkyAlum Civil Maps just raised a $6.6 million seed funding round from a group of investors, including Ford Motor Company, and was featured in WIRED and Fortune Magazine.

The Berkeley-based startup builds artificial intelligence that allows autonomous vehicles to navigate safely and securely. The goal is to create a new generation of maps that will enable machines to travel effectively without any human intervention.

With this data, Civil Maps is able to construct a 3D live map using information generated from its software. Specialized software allows vehicles to perceive, orient and respond to the physical world.  Furthermore, Civil Maps uses a light data footprint to transmit only necessary information to its users.
